BYD in Europe: The DM-i Hybrids Explained

BYD is the world's largest maker of new-energy vehicles and sells officially in Europe through its own dealer network — but almost exclusively electric models. The hugely popular DM-i plug-in hybrids remain reserved for the Chinese market. Those are exactly what we deliver as an independent importer: the Seal 05 DM-i from 20,920 € and the Song Plus DM-i — with EU individual approval, European registration documents and warranty.

Official BYD vs. import: what's the difference?

BYD runs an official dealer network in Europe — but sells a different range there than in China: chiefly electric models such as the Atto, Dolphin and Seal, at European prices. The DM-i plug-in hybrids, bestsellers in China, are not part of the European line-up.

Our offer complements the official one: we import the China-market models BYD doesn't sell in Europe — plug-in hybrids with no charging obligation, at Chinese price levels. Every car goes through EU individual approval and arrives with European documents and our importer warranty.

Import, registration and warranty

We handle delivery, customs, technical approval and registration end-to-end — you receive the car ready to drive with European documents. Every vehicle is covered by our importer warranty including service and parts supply.

Frequently asked questions about BYD imports

What kind of manufacturer is BYD?

BYD ("Build Your Dreams") from Shenzhen is the world's largest maker of new-energy vehicles — electric cars and plug-in hybrids — and builds its own batteries (the Blade battery). It has led the Chinese market for years.

Doesn't BYD sell officially in Europe?

It does — but a different range. Officially Europe mainly gets BYD's electric models. The DM-i plug-in hybrids such as the Seal 05 DM-i and Song Plus DM-i are not offered in Europe — they only arrive via import, for example through us.

What does DM-i mean?

DM-i is BYD's plug-in hybrid system: a petrol engine works together with an electric drive. Short distances are covered purely electrically — up to 128 km in the Seal 05 and up to 160 km in the Song Plus (CLTC) — while the hybrid drive takes over on long trips, with no charging required.

How much does an imported BYD cost?

The Seal 05 DM-i starts at 20,920 € — delivered, customs-cleared and registered; the Song Plus DM-i sits above it. That makes the DM-i imports some of the most affordable new plug-in hybrids on the market. The table above shows current prices.

What about warranty and spare parts?

Imported vehicles are not covered by BYD's European manufacturer warranty. That is why we provide our importer warranty on every delivered vehicle and handle service and parts sourcing.

How is an imported BYD registered?

Via EU individual vehicle approval. We handle the complete process — customs clearance, technical inspection, documents and registration — and deliver the car ready to drive.
